Slow Match (rumeurs & autres conneries)

i was on the barrier, right in the middle from the start of boris right up until the end, so you can consider this bizarre account at least factually correct as far as i could tell, and I've seen sunn before so know what to expect. ok, here it is:

Amps are set up, ready to rock. tension builds. smoke billows from one side of the stage, but only one side. that stage just isn't fillng up like its meant to. odd noise chimes out from house PA, like a supermarket calling noise, with announcement, something like "staff to control room". this is loud and happens many times. half stage still not covered in smoke. intro tape is playing. the announcement makes everyone laugh. it happens again. intro tape playing for a long time. more smoke from one side of the stage. another LOUD house pa annoucement "We are afraid that due to circumstances beyond our control, it has become necessary to evacuate the buillding". confused security, running everywhere, headless chickening. audience laughing, some nervously thinking "shall we leave? no, it MUST be the smoke machine....". more announcements, tension gone, security confused, no smoke at all, intro tape has been playing for 15 minutes.

Evetually, Oren emerges and lays down some of his beautiful tones (his solo set earlier that day was my festival highlight), Atilla shuffles out, new costume from last time, more twigs, amazing voice. they are joined by the two rhodes players and the bowed bass. (now there is NO SMOKE at all, its all gone...) then Greg and Stephen emerged, fully robed up. shuffling. going for the whole thing despite the lack of atmosphere created by the broken smoke machine, dodgy fire evacuation (butlins should be TOTALLY ASHAMED by their handling of this situation from a crowd point of view) and the amused crowd.

anyway, sunn play for ages, and it sounds great. Oren adds an awful lot to the already wonderful sound and I could watch Attila solo, personally, so i was well happy!

ok, so after a while, stephen puts his guitar down and leaves the stage. he then shows up at the side of the stage and signals to the band with his hand "down, down" or "wind it up, stop playing" but nobody notices or pays attention, the dirge continues. he then comes back out, puts his guitar on and throws down some noise, nice, we think, everything is ok. he then extends his hand into what you think is gonna be the claw, but no......its a thumbs down. he holds that for a while. he seems to be trying to get them to stop playing. eventually things start winding down, then this happens, real fast:

Greg kind of moves quickly to Stephen, I thought to hug him, but no... he lamps him one, then another. Stephen still holding his bean falls backwards into one of the sunn stacks (with TWO heads on top!!) which fall over with him, there is a great noise as they hit the floor, the sound of a cranked sunn, glass valves shattering on impact, fully turned up....wicked! Greg seems to be still lamping him one while he's down back there, he then exits stage right. by this time, the lights are on, security are rushing to the fracas, and the rest of the band are looking totally nonplussed.

Stephen isn't moving....or is he? is he ok? able to walk? is the bean ok? did the sunn land on an unsuspecting roadie? no, a roadie picks the bean up, it looks intact, then I think i saw Stephen get up and leave stage left, behind the amps.

was this part of the theatre of sunn, or was it just that Stephen was annoyed about the smoke and Greg was a bit sick of his whining?

It was a unique sunn show, make no mistake.

Is the facillity self contained? Sewage treatment etc?
What sort of restrictions are there? Can you reside there? Have a business?
What does it take to view the property? A deposit?

All 1950's vintage equipment was removed 40 years ago. The buldings are mostly empty and will need to be remodeled (somewhat) for a new use. Two of the missile silos still have about 90 feet of rocket holding structure in them. The third has been emptied all the way to the bottom (155' open ceiling height). Sewage treatment for the facility will have to be designed and installed for whatever new use the place is used for. The zoning is commercial/ industrial with few restrictions. There are currently two manufactured homes above ground. If you wanted to live below ground - that would be your choice. I am open to reasonable offers. There is not much to dismantle, considering the size of the complex.

Hi. Has this station been fully declassified? when was it decommissioned? is any equipment left on property? What type of a joint venture might you be looking for? is there an easy access to underground or only military type? vehicle access underground? how about utilities: water, gas, electricity? Is it too far from all civilization to make a unique restaurant/tour ground with a hotel facility built nearby? Can something be built on that land? thanx

Yes, and was decommissioned in the mid-1960's. Most all of the 1950's vintage equipment was removed when decommissioned.

Joint Venture (Preferred)- something neat - not like raising mushrooms.

Can be easy access. Current stairs. Big cargo elevator to surface could be retrofitted. Could make driveup access to a section of tunnel. Water (private well) and electric on site. Gas-only trucked in propane for gas - no pipelines around.

I think it would make a really neat resort/camp/retreat facility. Located about 1/2 hour from Moses Lake, Washington - a few minutes off I-90. About 1.5 hours to Spokane. About 4-5 hours to Seattle area.

Property currently zoned commercial/industrial. Can build pretty much what you want.
